Looking for a way to get active that is more involved than just working out? Check out the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA's sports and recreation opportunities.
Whether you're interested in an exciting, engaging way to exercise or you like a little friendly competition, there's sure to be a sport for you. Choose from team sports or one-on-one fun. Ongoing leagues and open play opportunities are also both available, depending on what suits you best.
Pickleball is a combination of ping-pong, badminton and tennis. The game is played by two or four people using paddles and a wiffle ball.
Schedule: Matches may be played in the Y’s gym during Monday-Friday Prime Time Hours (7-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m.) and on Sundays.
Equipment: An easy set-up net, paddles and balls are available for check-out at the Welcome Center Desk.

About Master Dave Hala
Master Dave Hala is a 5th degree black belt and ranking instructor at Shaw Martial Arts. Master Hala is currently an active competitor. Master Hala is a six time State of Iowa Champion and placed 3rd in the 2000 National Championships. Master Hala is a Kukkiwon certified instructor, a Krav Maga Universal certified instructor and a charter member of the American Master’s Association.
Sport Tae Kwon Do
A fast paced, active class for students ages 8 and above interested in learning Olympic (sport) Taekwondo. There will be a heavy emphasis on technical competition skills as well as movement, conditioning and forms. (Poomse) Students have the option to compete at local and national level events. Saturday sparring class is highly recommended for competitors. Ages 7 and up. Must be 7 years old, NO EXCEPTIONS. Must have a minimum of 8 enrolled to hold class. Scholarships available for families on free and reduced lunch. If a parent pays for child in Sport TKD, they can take combatives for free.
T/TH: 6 - 7:30 p.m.

Modern Combative is a real-world personal protection system derived from mixed martial arts and incorporates Kenpo, Jujitsu, Krav Maga and other systems. Designed with the most effective and advanced defensive tactics against armed and unarmed assailants. Taught in an easy to learn format for people of all abilities. Age 15 and up.
T/TH: 6 - 7:30 p.m.

- Program Participant - $100 monthly
Shaw Martial Arts will offer classes at a discounted rate to active Law Enforcement officials. Must register through Deb Grove to receive the discounted rate. Limited scholarships are available.

ADULT TEAM SPORTS
If you are interested in joining a racquetball league, look no further. The Hinder Club is Marshalltown's own racquetball club held at the Marshalltown Y. The club meets one timer per month for a scheduled event, runs the racquetball league, and hosts the racquetball tournament each spring.
