Redefining Competition

Sports at the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA is about building the whole child, from the inside out. We guide each child and teen to deepen relationships, improve self-esteem and build skills and character. Y staff and volunteer coaches focus on teaching the fundamentals and ensuring that everyone gets a chance to play and be part of a team.

SPORTS

Baseball/T-Ball (Ages 4-5, 6-8)

Everyone plays! Tee Ball is a fun and exciting way to introduce the game of baseball to kids at an early age with the Y core values in mind. Registration begins in early April.  Season begins early May and ends mid-June. Parent volunteer coaches needed.  Contact deb.grove@ymca-ywca.org for more information. 

Little Tykes Basketball League

Little Tykes Basketball is for the youngster looking for some actual game play. It's a great opportunity to build on skills learned during developmental basketball. Youngsters ages 4-8 will be placed on teams according to age. Games will be held on Saturday mornings during November/December. The games will be a learning experience with a focus on the fundamentals of the sport as well as the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA's core values. 

Parent volunteers are the coaches and are on the court during games to help guide the players. Program begins late October yearly.  Contact deb.grove@ymca-ywca.org for more information.  

Basketball (3 - 6 grade boys and girls)

3– 6 grade basketball is a league for youth in grades 3-6 that are interested in developing basic basketball knowledge and skills. Players are placed on a team according to school and grade. Teams practice one hour during the week and have an hour game on Saturday mornings. YMCA jerseys are required to participate. Previous Y jerseys are acceptable for play and new ones may be purchased for $12. Free Clinic held in December with games to follow in Jan/Feb.  More details will be released as season approaches. Contact deb.grove@ymca-ywca.org with questions.  

Flag Football (Ages 4-8)

Soccer (Ages 4-8)

A great opportunity for youth ages 4-8 to learn the fundamentals of soccer, while in the comfort of the indoors. Kids will learn how to dribble, shoot and pass in a warm environment. Volleyball (Grades 3-6)

Volleyball Club

Volleyball Club is open to members of all volleyball ability and ages. Emphasis is on getting active and having fun while playing volleyball. Teams are decided upon arrival. Score is kept but not recorded and good sportsmanship is a must. Teams make own calls and can replay if there’s disagreement. Must be registered to participate. Play as many games in 2 hours as possible.  Contact deb.grove@ymca-ywca.org for more information.

Shaw Martial Arts

Sport Tae Kwon Do

A fast paced, active class for students ages 8 and above interested in learning Olympic (sport) Taekwondo. There will be a heavy emphasis on technical competition skills as well as movement, conditioning and forms. (Poomse) Students have the option to compete at local and national level events. Saturday sparring class is highly recommended for competitors. Ages 7 and up. Scholarships for families on free and reduced lunch.  If a parent pays for child in Sport TKD, they can take combatives for FREE.  

T/TH: 6 - 7:30 p.m.
SAT: 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. (Optional)
T/TH: Master's Class 7:30 - 8:30 (By invitation only)

Youth Cost:

  • Members - $25 monthly
  • Program Participants - $40 monthly

Family Cost:

  • Members - $70 monthly
  • Program Participants - $100 monthly
